“Institution Building Programmes-support for Poland on its road to the European Union” is a catalogue of 263 projects implemented during the years 1998-2010. These projects comprised support for the public administration in the harmonization of Polish legislation with the acquis communautaire and in preparation for the Structural Fund and Cohesion Fund. The implementation of the Institution Building programmes required a collective effort of many institutions. There is no public administration or self-government institution which would not receive assistance within the projects presented. The vast experience gained by all the participants engaged today allows the Polish institutions to operate effectively within the structures of the European Union and also support countries being currently on the road to EU membership. We hope that the present publication will on the one hand testify to the support that Poland received from the EU and its Member States while aspiring for membership, as well as to the hard work that a good preparation for EU membership required from the public administration. On the other hand it was our intention to offer a source of information and support for the administration of those countries, which currently aspire to EU membership or plan to do so.
